INSTALLATIONS
Who Will Tell Me Who I Am? - 1995
This work was installed at Indiana State University. Popular culture dictates images appropriate for women that may conflict with her self-image. The body imprints represent the undeniable fact of the body with all its flaws. The outer carvings embrace cultural expectations.
Passages, 1995
Shown at the Eiteljorg Museum of Western and Indian Art in Indianapolis, IN, the wood for Passages came from 100-year-old trees uprooted in my yard. What had happened to the inside of the trees as I admired their beauty? Insects and the elements had scarred the wood, much as we are scarred in our passage through life.
The Perfect Beauty, 1991
This installation is a statement about women’s attempt to look as perfect as the touched-up photos in the media. It included a drawing of African Mende Masks, the large white mask seen here, and a video of interviews with men, women, and young adults about their ideas of beauty.
